I know I have been slacking on my restaurant of the month reviews, but leading up to the wedding we didn’t do a lot of dining out. So I plan on being more consistent on these monthly. Again, I don’t get any perks from these places, I just like to talk about where we go. If we had a good time and the food was good… I like to let people know. Tucked away in the the Colonial Town South neighborhood is a great restaurant called Maxine’s on Shine. You are probably thinking… well lots have people have reviewed this place…and yes you would be right. If you live here in the area, you have probably heard of it… but have you been there ? Its really gooood! If you do decide to try it, and I totally recommend you do… be careful not to drive by it. It is like I said, tucked away in the neighborhood and at night it can blend in with the rest of the homes on the street. It has lights and large patio, but if not looking for it, you might just drive right by it thinking someone just might be having a large dinner party. During the day you can see through the trees and it is a little more obvious that it is a restaurant, as the parking lot and the facade of the building become easier to see. It is an eclectic restaurant with art on the walls and a sultry feel. They recently made the Michelin list of restaurants which is a huge deal and lets you know that it’s a great place. They have a great brunch on the weekend with lots of yummy choices and a bunch of types of Mimosas and a great Sangria. Dinner is a full experience and Chef Volgerbacher always comes up with the best tasty and innovative selections that should please anyone in your small dining party or large group’s pallet, even the Vegan ones. They also have a great wine selection and the staff has been friendly, attentive, and accommodating both times we have been there. We even met one of the owners Maxine and she was very nice and we talked to her for a little bit. They are only open Thursday – Saturday for Dinner and Friday – Sunday for Brunch according to the websites “Summer Hours” as of this writing. I’m not sure if that is the permanent Summer schedule or if it is going to change like lots of places have before and after the pandemic. Anyway, remember this is more of a couples night, adult celebration type place. The menu is full of great selections but they are not a place to go if you are looking for a cheap quick evening with the kids. They don’t really have a lot of room to cater to kids and the atmosphere and art aren’t really kid friendly for the most part. Right on their website it says “Children under 7 after 7 are not allowed on Friday and Saturday to help provide the environment our patrons are looking for on date nights, anniversaries, and all of the occasions where Orlando has chosen Maxine’s for their sexy, comfortable, delicious night out. Thank you!” They are also known as a pet friendly restaurant on the patio. So if you want to bring the pooch to brunch you can do that. So remember to make reservations if you want to go, it is a small place and gets filled quickly… and also remember to get a babysitter if you have kids. Relax, treat yourself to an adult night, and let Maxine’s on Shine take you on a dining experience. |
